Solo Tales of the Quarterly Kind
Hello there,
Over the years I have collected many Tabletop Roleplaying Games, loved some and hated others. So, for the year 2026 I thought let's stick with 4 systems and switch to a new one every 3 months to create a story using Roleplaying mechanics as a Solo player.
If your new to the concept of solo role playing, let me explain. There is a whole history and philosophy behind this movement, but the simplest explanation is, playing your favorite Tabletop Roleplaying game by yourself when you're group of friends are not available. Each tabletop system has mechanics for a group setting, so Solo play requires an "Oracle". A nifty mechanic that acts as a Game Master answering questions and directing the story through prompts and tables.
If you're interested in going down the rabbit hole, there is a great community on Reddit at R/Solo_roleplaying; it has great guides on where to start. If you gravitate towards videos, I recommend The Grouch Couch; Turk has an amazing understanding of Solo roleplaying, and his content is engaging for all hobbyists.
The series of blogs will be called Solo Tales of the Quarterly Kind or STQK.
The four TTRPG's that I will be using for this project are:
- Dragon Quest SPI 2nd Edition
- Gamma World 1st Edition
- OSE-Settlers of a Dead God
- Suldokar's Wake Omnibus
The goal is to showcase each roleplaying game through a Solo lens, while documenting the PC's adventures throughout the year.
Posts will have a mixture of narration, with a dash of tested mechanics within each system. The episodes will be divided by scene and will include footnotes, designating the rolls and tables used during Solo play.
Starting off with the first TTRPG
Rolled 1d4, which gave me Gamma World 1st Edition as the first system I will be using. (Jan-Mar)
